How To Have A Garage Sale

Garage Sale Pricing

A Few Tips About Garage Sale Pricing

Garage sale pricing can be a bit confusing, as there are so many items that we have no comparison for. The point of having a garage sale is usually to clean out things that you haven’t the room or need for any more, while putting a few dollars back into your pocket. It all sounds easy enough, but making guessing about appropriate garage sale pricing can take a bit of the fun, and the profit, from your overall efforts. Prices should be based on the popularity, condition, and usefulness of the items in question, and by determining these three aspects you can probably put together quite a nice and fair spread. Be prepared with a fine tipped marker, some self adhering labels, plenty of bags, large and boxes, a calculator, and a cash box complete with pen and paper for proper documentation. You are now ready to begin garage sale pricing.

The most typical items that we tend to get rid of are things that we have outgrown, either taste wise or in size, and things that have cluttered our lives for too long. Kids always seem to have way too many stuffed animals and board games, don’t they? These are typical things that we find at a garage sale, and typical garage sale pricing will be sufficient. We sell used and discarded things for less than ten percent of their original cost, on average. Some mildly or never used items should be priced at around twenty-five percent of their original cost, but rarely for more than that. People have come to a garage sale because they’re looking for garage sale pricing. If they wanted to pay full price they would purchase their goods at a store where the selection and sizing offer a much greater variety. Keep this in mind as you proceed.

Toys that are not battery operated or electrical in any way should not be priced above two dollars, unless they are vintage or costly and in great condition. The point is to get rid of these things, and the higher your garage sale pricing scale is set, the more likely you are to end up still surrounded by this annoying clutter.

Most importantly, you may want to put together some bag for a buck items, such as summer and under clothes, small toys, and flatware. This is a great way to unload the bulk of your garage sale items, and you may be surprised at how quickly this money adds up. Your children may be given an incentive to clean up their rooms if there is a reward in it for them, so get the young ones in on the garage sale pricing frenzy as well.
