How To Have A Garage Sale

Garage Sale Items

Some Of The Most Popular Garage Sale Items

Most people are drawn to garage sale items, though each person has taste specific expectations and a limited amount of money that they are willing to spend for second hand things. Knowing your customers, and offering what everybody is looking for, will be the key to your successful sale. Garage sale items need to be clean, organized, and priced correctly from the beginning of your event, as this will avoid much confusion and frustration on both ends. Pricing your garage sale items clearly, and giving plenty of space in between them, will keep your tables and display areas from becoming cluttered and confusing. Also, try grouping things together that are pertinent, so that your customers don’t overlook anything that may have been of interest to them.

The most sought after garage items are always a good thing to advertise right from the beginning, whether you have placed an advertisement in the newspaper or posted signs around town. The premise for any sale or special pricing occasion is the same for garage sales as it is for department stores: bring them in for what they want but make sure that they leave with something at least. You may have sold the sofa that they were interested in, but it just so happens that their college bound daughter needs a toaster oven for her dorm room. Try to lead them in, and make sure that everything can be seen from a distance.

Bicycles and appliances are very popular garage sale items, and people will show up in droves just to get a peek. Be sure that all of your merchandise is clean and well kempt, as disheveled and grimy items will often sit undiscovered. People don’t want to touch or clean up your dirt, no matter how sloppy they may be themselves. Take the time to make it shine, and you yourself will earn that dime.

Some other important garage sale items come in the form of furniture, children’s clothing, and antiques. These items usually spell gold for the garage sale owner, and having them all cleaned up, priced down, and ready to go will be the best way to proceed. Furniture should be steam cleaned before sale, especially if pets or children have taken liberties with the items. Children’s clothing which is more worn out than your gently used items will usually sell quickly when placed as “bag for a buck” items. You can also do this with odds and ends such as flatware, utensils, small toys, tools, and undergarments. Any garage sale items which would be worth too little individually will sell much better in bulk amounts at lower prices. Good luck!
