How To Place Garage Sale Ads

We all see the garage sale ads in the newspaper, and many of us look for that section specifically when we need things or are in the mood to strike up a great deal on a unique item. Garage sale ads are important in smaller communities, where a lot of the traffic along local roads is local traffic, and we need people to come into town just for our sale. The larger publications will often cover territories up to a one hundred mile radius, so getting the word out on your event will be made just a little bit easier. Most garage sale ads are fairly inexpensive to run, and you may notice that most of them are begun upwards of a week before the sale begins. This is good marketing strategy, because most people like to shop for what has been advertised. Competition is a good thing in the garage sale arena.

If you are looking to place garage sale ads, you may want to list a few of your most valuable and popular items, as this will draw the crowds in quite well. Always make a big deal out of such items as furniture, appliances, children’s clothing, bicycles, and antiques. These are the five big garage sale finds, and if you have any of them you are bound to throw a successful sale overall. Be sure to price your items appropriately, because people will not pay top dollar for second hand things. It’s best not to exceed 30% of any items original cost, and this is the maximum that I would go even if an item looks brand new. If department stores are more competitive than you are, your sale will not be successful.

You can also work on some home made garage sale ads, but be sure to put a bit of effort into the product. The first impression of your sale will be the sign which indicates it. Tearing the side of a box off and scribbling on it magic marker can give a bad vibe to passers by. If the signs look that terrible, what will the merchandise look like? If you haven’t the artistic talent, materials, or time to deal with such an undertaking, perhaps you might purchase a couple of garage sale signs from your local dollar or hardware store, and let them do the talking for you. Children also love such undertakings, so giving them some poster board and art mediums might be just what the doctor ordered for your garage sale ads. Whatever else you decide to do, be sure that you are organized, neat, and ready to go once sale day arrives. Have fun!
